With the Proton redesign (refresh of the Firefox UI), we have to make difficult scope decisions to ensure Firefox remains simple to use and simple to maintain. The "Compact" density is a feature of the "Customize toolbar" view which is currently fairly hard to discover, and we assume gets low engagement. We want to make sure that we design defaults that suit most users and we'll be retiring the compact mode for this reason.

For clarity we retain the "Touch" density for accessibility reasons on touch devices.

But it gets frustrating when the browser or its tabs or windows take a wee bit longer to open.
Bei Vivaldi leider sehr langsam.

Soll jetzt besser sein. Hab's noch nicht getestet.
The new update of Vivaldi addresses this concern and offers a faster version that will help shave seconds, even minutes off a day and potentially hours off a year. Now the browser tabs open twice as fast and new windows open 26% faster than before.

browser.compactmode.show = true

Early on in our work defining MR1 we were faced with a decision, design two modes for our Tab experience or focus on one. At that time we made the decision to focus on designing one tab management experience that does the job well.
We heard the feedback loud and clear from the earliest iterations on vertical spacing, which shared concerns we had as a team. Since then we’ve changed and continued to refine how the base experience behaves.
So we’re going to ensure current users can retain compact mode if they already enjoy it. For other users they can find the feature behind a pref; to reveal it as an update in the density picker. This change will be addressed in bug 1703254.
Was für ein Blödsinn. Es gibt trotzdem mindestens 2 Designs, denn "Touch" bleibt ja.

This is not a satisfactory course of action.

Either support a feature or don't. Hiding even the possibility of a user choosing Compact Mode is the first step to full deprecating the feature.

I can assume that once actual data was gathered on Compact Mode that it was found a significant number of users were taking advantage of the feature. In this case Users want the feature. What is gained by hiding the compact mode option. It is an option in a list with Normal and Touch Density so it takes no extra space in the UI. Hiding it by default feels like a punative and frankly childish action by desingers who have been forced to rethink their ideas due to user feedback.

Hi folks hope you are all well and healthy. We want to announce a change in our support groups. Mozilla will turn off the nntp lights and so the newgroups mozilla.support.seamonkey and mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey will go away soon. These were actually not real nntp groups but mailing lists mixed in with nntp. The mailing lists have been moved to google groups. The nntp servers will be archived and then switched off. We do not have a final date for this yet. SeaMonkey is also a nntp client so as a replacement a new nntp group alt.comp.software.seamonkey has been created.

Kleines Update:
April 15, 2021

SeaMonkey 2.53.7.1 released

The SeaMonkey project is proud to present SeaMonkey 2.53.7.1: The new release of the all-in-one Internet suite is available for download now! 2.53.7.1 is a minor bug fix update. 2.53.7 broke the usage of legacy generators and the deprecated for each statement in add-ons and the Add-on SDK. It also contains a fix for handling of dead keys in text input fields for Linux distributions using GTK 3.24.26+. Before installing it make a full backup of your profile and thoroughly read and follow the Release Notes.
