That means PS4 and PS5 game Gran Turismo 7 had to settle for second place in its debut week. 57% of sales for the racing sequel came as a digital download.

Compared to the digital launch of 2017's Gran Turismo Sport, sales are up 185%, which just shows the rise of the download market over the past five years.

With digital and physical combined, GSD data shows that 78% of Gran Turismo 7 sales were of the PS5 version. It's the third biggest PS5 launch of the year behind Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West, although it is very close between all three of those games.

In Japan ist der PS4 Anteil deutlich größer:
Famitsu’s figures place GT7 as the top seller overall in Japan, ahead of Nintendo’s Triangle Strategy, with 137,964 copies sold between PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. The platform split is a lot closer though, at 53:47 in the PS5’s favor.

That puts the new title behind GT Sport, but it’s very close indeed, with Famitsu’s equivalent Week 1 estimates of Sport sitting at 139,000 sales. It’s over the same time period too, as Sport’s later launch in Japan meant it too had just three days between launch and the first charts.

Plus GT7 got Platinum Award in March (>200k) and GTA Trilogy got Gold Award (>100k).

Sony's Gran Turismo 7 is in a comfortable second position on the podium. The new release title actually sold best at physical retail, with boxed copies accounting for 58% of sales. The PS5 version of the game was the most popular, representing 64% of all copies sold (with the remainder on PS4).
From the March Numbers

H:FW - 59:41 (PS5 to PS4)
GT7 - 64:36 (PS5 to PS4)

Gran Turismo 7 Was The Second-Best Selling Game in March 2022

NPD’s figures place GT7 second on both the all-platforms and PlayStation charts across March 2022, behind only Elden Ring.

NPD analyst and advisor Mat Piscatella posted on social media that not only was GT7 successful in general terms, it hit a new all-time revenue record for a Gran Turismo game in its launch month. However that’s tempered by the fact it was both the most expensive GT game to date — at $59.99 on PS4 and $69.99 on PS5 — and launched earlier in the month than any of its predecessors.
In the UK, Gran Turismo 7 was the top-seller in terms of boxed games every week in March, ahead of Elden Ring and WWE 2K22, and was in the top ten of digital sales throughout the month, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

German industry body Game.de also had GT7 as the month’s top seller, ahead of Elden Ring and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It was a similar story across Europe, with GT7 either top or in the top three, of sales across all platforms throughout the month in Spain, Italy, France, and Belgium by local Games Sales Data stats.
It was the most-downloaded game in Europe on PS5, ranking second in North America on PS5 and Europe on PS4, and third by North American PS4 downloads.
