“Set on a dystopian Earth nearing the end of its life, The Surge offers a grim vision of our future,” developer Deck13 explains. “Accelerating advancements in technology and our abuse of the environment has led to an overly decadent civilization that now lies on the brink of collapse.”

The game features “innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat.”

The screenshot shows the game’s hero in his exoskeleton, which can be upgraded over time. Players will be able to target specific parts or limbs of enemies to recover pieces of armor, weapons, or equipment that they wish to attach to their own exoskeleton.

“Of course, the best parts will often be the hardest to cut off – and they’ll usually be attached to the most dangerous enemies,” the developer added. “Even the most common enemies can prove deadly, and the game features imposing bosses who will truly put your wits, guts and reflexes to the test.”

DSIII
Eitr
Salt and Sanctuary
Death's Gambit
Lords of the Fallen 2
The Surge

The Surge’s new trailer explores a first bad day at the office.

Deck 13's new hardcore action-RPG The Surge today unveils a CGI trailer exploring Warren’s first day on the job at CREO, the megacorporation on a mission to save a dystopian world - pessimistic vision of our future - from itself.

Freshly recruited as an augmented worker, Warren’s first day coincides with a catastrophic event deep inside CREO, during the routine surgical operation meant to graft, through flesh and bone, the exo-suit required for the company's employees. This disastrous event marks the first in a series of brutal events, turning this first day at CREO into a hellish nightmare of robots gone haywire, crazed employees with fried cranial implants, and artificial intelligence that all wants Warren dead.

Now equipped with a state-of-the-art exoskeleton, you'll have to improvise in order to survive - tools manipulated by CREO workers, while not originally meant for combat, make for effective lethal weapons; the equipment pieces compatible with your exo-suit will make you faster, stronger, sturdier. During battle, target specific limbs of your enemies, slice them and retrieve the powerful attached equipment to improve and power-up your own suit, allowing you to delve deeper in the CREO complex and attempt to put an end to the madness initiated by the Surge.

Make the most of your exo-suit, armors, and almost limitless armament combinations to survive CREO when The Surge slices its way onto PS4 in May 2017.

Looks interesting, but in the gameplay video, it seems like areas that you have already cleaned, are quickly repopulated - which I don't really like.

Hope the story is better told than in Lords of the Fallen. That was both boring and a chore to check.

Enemies do respawn if you enter a safe house only usually.
And yeah, we worked quite a lot on our story stuff ;)
Story war ja in Lords of the Fallen so gut wie nicht vorhanden.

Upcoming sci-fi action RPG The Surge today reveals 14 minutes of gameplay with commentary from Deck13 Game Designer Adam Hetenyi. Explore the dystopian environments in CREO’s mysterious industrial and RND complex, the Abandoned Laboratories.

Fitted with an industrial exoskeleton, you must fight your way through CREO, equipping the spoils of combat to your suit. Armor and weapons are looted from enemies after duels, in which you will take advantage of The Surge’s unique limb-targeting system to attack and cut off parts of the enemy you want to equip or craft.

Targeting a part of the enemy which is armored will deal less damage, but you will earn the opportunity to deal a finishing blow that will cut off the limb in-tact, allowing you to loot the spoils, gain blueprints, and tech-scrap used to level up your exoskeleton.

The Surge features vertical and horizontal attacks, which are used in combination with parry’s, ducks and jumps as well as a boosted dodge – courtesy of your exoskeleton – culminating in swift, snappy, precise combat situations unlike anything experienced before.

At CREO, you will meet survivors who need help or who can offer assistance. Accepting missions can yield extra rewards, but you will have to balance that against your desire to go deeper into the complex, as the stakes grow ever higher – once dropped, your tech scrap will diminish over time.

Face the dangers of CREO and set your own challenges. Accept missions, learn more about CREO’s history and lore, and fight the various mini-bosses scattered throughout the environment, or play it safe and struggle to survive – it’s up to you.

The Surge Goes Gold; PS4 Support Detailed
Today, developer Deck13 and publisher Focus Home Interactive announced that its upcoming hardcore action RPG, The Surge, which is set to release on May 16, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, has gone gone gold.

For those that don’t know, “gone gold” or “goes gold” comes from the term “gold master,” which is a version of the game deemed good enough to be shipped to store. So, when a game goes gold, it means development is done, and the game is ready to be sold.

Additionally the pair also unveiled more information about PS4 Pro support for the game. PS4 Pro updates will supposedly come across across two separate updates, with the first free update coming at launch, which will enable players to play at Dynamic 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps. A second update will arrive a “a bit later after release:” it will enable players to activate the HDR option.

The Surge will be available both at retail and digitally. It will cost $59.99 USD
