Story

Your flight crashes after passing through a mysterious portal. As the sole survivor, you awaken to an unfamiliar land lit by stars you’ve never seen. This land is Escario, the city of swords. Quickly marked as the Chosen One, the Stranger of Sword City, you must defend this place, and choose your allegiances carefully as you scour the land for a way home.

Key Features

A Surprising Dark Fantasy – A labyrinth wouldn’t be complete without the trappings of darkness that this fantasy brings. The story and characters depart from the comedy and lightness found in some of Experience’s other games, and opts for traditional hardcore elements like perma-death and Life Points, while infusing the gameplay with a new Ambush system which will challenge you to decide how much risk you’re willing to accept to obtain the greatest loot.

Competition in the Dungeon – Unlike most dungeon RPGs, Stranger of Sword City won’t leave you as a stranger among your peers. Online leaderboards will allow you to finally compete with your friends, and strangers across the world to display your dominance in everything from the best gear, to the fastest clear time.
Overwhelming Art – Fantasy is created by visuals and music as much as by story. In this title, the breathtaking art throughout your travels, and abundance of character portraits available for creating your perfect party will allow you to be truly transported into the magic of Sword City.
Life Points is the system that keeps characters alive, when you lose all life points your character can be lost or basically permadeath. Life points can be recovered but cost money, though older characters with a single life point, once you lose that, you lose the character also. So beware. Seems that also characters who will be recovering life points need rest time within the guild, so they have to be taken out of the party as they recover. There is a way to instantly recover, but it costs a lot more than the normal recovery process.
Age system ties into the Life Point system, the young characters have more Life Points but their stats increase during level ups are lower and less max cap for rolling stats points at start. Older characters have less life points, but their stats increase when leveling is much higher along with the initial bonus points you have to roll for at the start of the game.. Characters will not age as in other Wizardry type of titles with an age system, so everything is preset from the creation choices.
Players can level themselves up at anytime as long as EXP requirements are met. There is no automatic leveling or having to sleep in an inn to raise your level.
Sub members who are not part of the main adventuring party will gain EXP. Therefore its highly suggested to make all of your sub characters ahead of time.
When the main Party (PT) is eliminated its game over. There is no recovery system as in other Wizardry type of titles, Elminage being one example where you can send out another party to recover the bodies of the first.
There is no Thief / Rogue type of class. Skills for treasure hunting can be used for all classes if selected, allowing for people to focus more on a party selection that suits them better than always having to be forced to have a single rogue type of character in the party at all times. Though the related skills will take up a talent slot, so careful consideration needs to be made.
Magic will be un-usable again underwater, such as what was seen in Demon Gaze.
Dancer is the new class introduced to the series. Though possibly taking on the role of being one of the more important characters as its class specific abilities allows for recovery of morale. For those who plan on doing long treks through the dungeon having a dancer in the party will allow for that with its morale recovery skills. Can also use multiple items at once, which makes them highly useful for underwater dungeons where magic is unable to be deployed.
There are no save points in the dungeon spells to exit the dungeon quickly. There are items, but they are very expensive and highly limited in numbers. Also the randomly appearing butterfly nests can give the player a 1 time warp out of the dungeon.
All characters start off with 2 skill slots, from lv 13 you will gain another and keep doing so till you have 7 total. Has to do with changing classes also I think. Each time you change class you can earn another skill slot. Total is 7. So 2 from the start then +5 from the 5 allocated class changes.
Rare Items can be fed to the Mumic to give the player another chance at a "re-roll" of the same unique item in the future. The purpose of this is, if you are unhappy with the + stats on your Unique Item (Bishoptl's Hammer of Banning +2) then you can feed it to the Mumic if you come across it in the dungeon, allowing for another chance for it to redrop with better stats. Though its all up to chance if the stats will be better or worse. Just as with Demon Gaze you only pick up rare items once and if you sell it or discard it by accident its gone forever.
In regards to age / LP / stats points general breakdown
10~19 Years:Max LP 3、Lowest Bonus Pts 3
20~39 Years:Max LP 2、Lowest Bonus Pts 5
40~59 Years:Max LP 2、Lowest Bonus Pts 7
60~99 Years:Max LP 1、Lowest Bonus Pts 10
*If you have the trait "Battle Luck" increase lowest possible bonus by +3

Stranger of Sword City first English screenshots, details

Stranger of Sword City on PS Vita: Battles and Bragging Rights

Hey there, dood! It’s been a bit since I’ve been around these parts, but I’m here to introduce you to an awesome RPG on PS Vita from Japan — Stranger of Sword City — which you’ll be able to dive into on March 22nd, 2016! I even managed to snag some screenshots from our current development build of the game.

After surviving a mysterious plane crash, you wake to an unfamiliar land lit by stars you’ve never seen. This land is Escario, the city of swords. Quickly marked as the Chosen One, the Stranger of Sword City, you must defend this place and choose your allegiances carefully as you scour the land for a way home. And that’s how your adventure begins.

Stranger of Sword City, at its core, is a game about death and the struggle to avoid vanishing forever. Like previous Experience, Inc. titles, you’ll be able to customize your team through a ton of character creation options — everything from their age (which affects how many times they can die before vanishing, and how many stat points they get to allocate) to the RPG mainstays of race (Migmy FTW!), talent, class, and more.

Experience, Inc. has changed up the dungeon crawler formula a bit by incorporating a few cool systems that are sure to keep you elbow-deep in the dungeons of this harrowing Japanese dark fantasy title.

Decisions to be Made

The choices you make in Stranger of Sword City will affect how you play, as allying yourself with different factions will unlock different skills and benefits for your party members. You’ll have to carefully consider if you’ll be throwing your support behind the mysterious Strangers Guild, gambling on the shifty Medell Co. to help you out, or running the straight and narrow with the city’s defenders in the Kingdom.

Each step of the way on your journey will offer risk and reward as you build rapport with each group in order to maximize your chances of surviving and finding your way home.

Then, Out of Nowhere!

Speaking of risk and reward, Stranger of Sword City features a unique Ambush system that will put your life on the line to earn the greatest loot. As the name implies, this system lets you observe your enemies before jumping into battle when the perfect opportunity presents itself.

Using the Ambush system, you’ll have a chance to encounter unique enemies, and get a helpful glimpse at the loot they’re transporting! Careful though, you’ll be vulnerable to enemy ambushes as well if you wait too long in search of the best gear.

You Want a Challenge?

Ever told your brother how awesome the team you built in your game was, only to have him try to one-up you with how fast he cleared the game? No? Hm, well, I certainly have and I hate my brother thinking he’s better than me, so I’m super pumped for the leaderboard system that Experience has added!

It lets you rank and compare yourself against other players across more than 40 categories, including everything from level clear time to party and item strength. So you’ll want to take advantage of that Ambush system if you want to reach the top of the charts.

You’ll be able to explore all the features of Stranger of Sword City when it launches digitally and at retail on March 22nd, 2016.
