Farewell to Microsoft Internet Games on Windows XP, Windows ME, and Windows 7

Hello, Microsoft Internet Games players, it is with heavy hearts that we have made the difficult decision that the following games will no longer be supported.

• Internet Backgammon (XP/ME, 7)
• Internet Checkers (XP/ME, 7)
• Internet Spades (XP/ME, 7)
• Internet Hearts (XP/ME)
• Internet Reversi (XP/ME)
• MSN Go (7)

Microsoft Internet Games services on Windows XP and ME will end on July 31, 2019.
Microsoft Internet Games services on Windows 7 will end on January 22, 2020.

Microsoft Is Now Helping Developers Port Their DirectX 12 Games to Windows 7

DirectX 12 was long bound by Microsoft to Windows 10, which forced gamers to move from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to the latest Windows in order to play DirectX 12-only titles.

That’s all changing now, however. The first game to support DirectX 12 on Windows 7 was Blizzard’s fifteen-years-old MMORPG World of Warcraft back in March.

Lu also added that Microsoft was working with ‘a few other game developers’ to achieve the same result for the older Windows OS. One example for instance is the upcoming Gears 5, which can be played on Windows 7 if purchased via Steam.

This week, Jianye Lu brought even better news for those who don’t want to upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft is sharing with the wider development community a handful of resources that should make it easier for them to port their DX12 titles to Windows 7.

Ich hab heut mal das kostenlose update auf win 10 laufen lassen. Diversen Schritte liefen auch gut durch, dann solte ich neu starten, der Bildschirm wurde blau und die Installation begann. Dann blieb es aber mehrere Stunden auf 27% hängen, was mich zum Abbruch gebracht hat. Hat jemand ne Ahnung, was ich da machen kann?

Ich habe einfach gewartet. Bei mir lief die Installation irgendwann im laufe der Nacht weiter. Keine Ahnung also wie lange das gedauert hat.

Ok, das ist überraschend. Microsoft kündigt Windows 10X für Dual-Screen Geräte an und kündigt auch direkt ein Tablet an.



Es wurde auch ein Handy angekündigt, das läuft aber komischerweise mit Android.

MS hat ein paar Dokumente zu Windows 10X - dem OS für u.a. das Surface Neo - geleakt

Optisch im Stile eines Mobile OS, und in den Funktionen genauso etwas eingeschränkt. Win32 Programme laufen wohl nur virtualisiert (nicht Teil des Leak, wurde vorher schon berichtet).

Anwender aus dem KMU-Bereich, die einzelne ESU-Optionen für ihre Maschinen benötigen, können diese zum Netto-Preis von 61,53 Euro (in Deutschland Brutto 73,22 €) über die Firma Software-Express ordern. Die Preise für die Folgejahre sind bisher nicht bekannt, werden sich aber signifikant erhöhen.

So was ist schon fast als dreist zu bezeichnen.
Man streicht den Support, außer man zahlt dafür.
Ja, 10 Jahre sind eine lange Zeit, aber sich den Support vergolden lassen ist dennoch etwas unschön.
Bei XP ging es afair nur für Firmen und Behörden, nun für jeden.

Hoffentlich wird es dennoch "irgendwie" Updates geben.

War mit XP (zu seiner Zeit) das beste OS und ich war eigentlich wunschlos glücklich.
Windows 10 hat keine Funktionen, die ich brauche.
Die Netflix App habe ich mal probiert, aber ansonsten gibt es da nicht viel.
Ich hätte keine Probleme damit, Windows 7 10 weitere Jahre zu nutzen.

Runde Fenster und Transparenz fand ich nicht so toll und das Classic Theme hat leider kein Compositing.

Transparente Fenster sind in 10 mittlerweile auch wieder da, zum Glück abschaltbar.

Ich hab 7 nur wenig genutzt und bin eher von XP zu 8.1 gewechselt
