In Japan, Muramasa Rebirth’s Downloadable Episodes Are Like $5
Muramasa Rebirth has downloadable characters like a Nekomata and a farmer inspired by Harvest Moon. All of these extra characters have a different play style and they’re exclusive to the Vita version.

The DLC scenarios will be sold for 500 yen ($5.30) each in Japan. Aksys has not announced a US price for the extra scenarios. The Nekomata episode that lets players claw at youkai will be available soon.

Muramasa Rebirth’s New Translation Compared To Ignition’s Wii Version

Shiny graphics, customizable controls, and four downloadable characters are features Vanillaware added to Muramasa Rebirth. The biggest change may actually be a brand new localization.

Aksys redid the dry translation from Muramasa: The Demon Blade on Wii for the enhanced Vita version. Here’s a look at how Muramasa Rebirth stacks up compared to localization work from Ignition and Entalize.

Why Muramasa Rebith is coming to PS Vita rather than consoles
Muramasa: The Demon Blade was originally released on Wii. For Muramasa Rebirth, Vanillaware and Marvelous AQL decided to bring the game to the PlayStation Vita as opposed to new consoles.

What was behind the idea to release Muramasa on a portable rather than another console? Producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto explained to Game Informer:

“If we were to re-release the game, we wanted to do so in a completely different setting where the vividness of the colors could be seen much more clearly. Also, we wanted the game on a handheld device and not another home console so that players can pick up and play the game more casually when they have time.”

Muramasa Rebirth Shipments Reach 100,000 Units In Japan
Marvelous AQL seems to be having a successful run with the PlayStation Vita. Soul Sacrifice, Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, and the vivid port of Muramasa: The Demon Blade have all sold fairly well in Japan.

Muramasa Rebirth broke past 100,000 units sold. Not bad considering the game is only a month old. Looking back, the Wii version was "in the ball park of 35K" according to the NPD with a little less than month’s worth of sales in North America.

Muramasa Rebirth comes out on June 25 with a new localization from Aksys.

*As a clarification to an earlier version of this post, the figures for the packaged version are shipments.
