Das sieht fast exakt nach den Konfigurationsmöglichkeiten aus, die auch OnePlus mit seinem OxygenOS bietet. Ich habe mich mittlerweile an die reine Gestensteuerung gewöhnt, also überhaupt keine sichtbaren Knöpfe, nicht mal die kleine Alibi-Lasche wie hier zu sehen. Die Auswahl zu haben ist natürlich immer besser.

Gibt's nicht nur die Gesten mit dem Pixel 3 (ohne Q Beta)?

Ja, die Wahlmöglichkeit hatte Google abgeschafft.
Ich weiß nicht von welchem Gerät der Screenshot bei XDA ist, die neue Beta gibt es für mehr Geräte.

Ich hätte gerne mehr Buttons in der Nav-Leiste, Platz wäre genug da bei den größer gewordenen Geräten. Ich vermisse den Menüknopf.


Nach langer Wartezeit gibt es wieder Daten zur Versionsverteilung der Geräte im PlayStore. Angeblich ging Google die Datenquelle verloren ?!?

Hab die neue Beta auf meinem Pixel 2 XL installiert und dort gibts auch die "neue" Gestensteuerung. Hab sie mal aktiviert, scheint ganz gut zu klappen eigentlich. Muss man sich nur dran gewöhnen. Mir gefällt schon mal, dass ich quasi problemlos durch alle Apps im Hintergrund switchen kann.

Und manche meinen das Abschalten von Adaptive Battery verbessert die Laufzeit.

Was soll es da auch groß durch eine "KI" zu optimieren geben wenn Hintergrundaktivitäten sowieso extrem eingeschränkt wurden.

It also does away with the rotate button that appears when auto-rotate is turned off and makes it impossible to do a long-press back for history in browsers. Simple terrible and I'm glad they kept the old options and didn't force this.

Also bis auf die Geste für "zurück" komme ich damit schon ganz gut klar. Aber das "reinwischen" in den Screen für zurück ist höchst gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Macht Apple so, muß also die perfekte Lösung sein .

Lösung hat ein paar Probleme:
- die Geste wird von einigen Apps benutzt. Wurde von Google auch lange propagiert. Jetzt sollen stattdessen wieder Buttons genutzt werden.
- Manche ROMs benutzen so eine Geste auch, z.B. Samsung.
- Zurück gedrückt halten geht nicht (?)



Kiwi Browser wurde wohl kurz aus dem Store geworfen - wegen YouTube Hintergrundwiedergabe. Feature jetzt entfernt. Mußte Opera auch schon mal machen.

Gute Nachricht: 3 Button Navigation bleibt! (optional)
Für manche evtl. schlecht: Nur die Google Gesten sind in Zukunft erlaubt, keine anderen.

“In the future for Android, we’re going to be supporting 2 nav modes moving forward. The first one is 3 buttons, you know Android users love 3 buttons. We know that it’s super usable and it also addresses a lot of accessibility needs that gestures just cannot. On the other hand, we also know that there’s a lot of desire for gestures, so we will be supporting 1 gesture mode, which is what you saw, moving forward in Android – and only that one.” – Ronan Shah, Google.

Mr. Shah continues, explaining why they’ve decided to restrict OEMs from implementing their own gesture controls.

“Users increasingly want immersive experiences in Android, and one thing that device makers have done is try to approach this from a software side. And what they’ve done is built their own gesture nav. And every device maker has a different impression of how gesture nav should work. What we recognize on a platform side is that kind of gets insane for a developer. Thinking about N different gesture navs when you’re trying to develop, design for, test for, your app, it just kind of gets insane. So with that in mind, we introduced this gesture nav in Q and we’re going to be standardizing the ecosystem as of Q on 3 buttons and our model moving forward.” – Ronan Shah, Google.​

Edit:
Assistent hat auch eine Geste:

• Swipe vertically up from the bottom to go home
• Swipe horizontally from the left or right to go back
• Swipe diagonally from the bottom left or right corner until your finger reaches the middle of the screen to trigger Google Assistant
• Swipe horizontally left or right on the bottom gesture bar to quickly switch between apps
• Swipe up and hold to access the recent apps overview

Wie soll man da drauf kommen, ein Problem von Gesten allgemein. Überhaupt nicht ersichtlich im Gegensatz zu Buttons.

Update: Zusätzliche Gesten bleiben doch erlaubt

Despite what was said on stage, Google confirmed to AndroidAuthority that they won’t explicitly disallow third-party gestures. Instead, Google sees third-party gestures “as a power user option.” Thus, while OEMs will be forced to offer the traditional 3 button navigation and Google’s new gestures, they won’t be restricted from offering additional navigation gestures options. Users will choose between the 3 button navigation mode and Android Q gestures during setup, but it’s unclear whether OEMs are allowed to show their own gestures during setup.

Backup und Android ist bekanntlich ein schwieriges Thema.
Die einzige Möglichkeit für ein Backup von Anwendungsdaten, offline und ohne root, funktioniert per adb. Ist reichlich umständlich und Programme können sich davon ausschließen, macht z.B. Chrome so.
Adb Backup wurde jetzt von Google als veraltet markiert, also evtl. in Zukunft entfernt.

Geht ein Backup zukünftig nur noch auf Google Servern , oder arbeitet Google an einer besseren Lösung?

Ob Fortschritt oder Rückschritt liegt im Auge des Betrachters. Der Artikel transportiert Googles Sicht - wie fast alle Artikel in der Presse dazu.

Das Berechtigungsmodell betrachtet Google wohl als gescheitert, der User ist zu dumm/faul/bequem und nickt sowieso alles ab. Dabei gäbe es so viele Möglichkeiten, man schaue sich nur mal die erweiterten Optionen von LineageOS an (Privacy Guard...).

Huawei ist mir nicht mehr so sympathisch seit sie keine Bootloader mehr entsperren

Die Spionagevorwürfe aus USA völlig ohne Beweise gehen allerdings gar nicht.
Jetzt wird der Wirtschaftskrieg richtig eskaliert: Google kündigt die Androidlizenz! Kein PlayStore, keine PlayServices,...

Vielleicht ist das ein guter Tag für AOSP? Zu wünschen wäre es wenn die Androidwelt weniger von verschlossenen Googleprodukten abhinge.
