Light Flow hobbled by Play Store developer policy changes and API targeting requirements

Android 8 Oreo drastically changed how notifications worked, requiring that an app declare its notification LED color and vibration/sound when created, rather than passing that information later.

Bromite is Chromium plus ad blocking and privacy enhancements; take back your browser!

The main goal is to provide a no-clutter browsing experience without privacy-invasive features and with the addition of a fast ad-blocking engine.

Minimal UI changes are applied to help curbing the idea of “browser as an advertisement platform”.

All patches are published under GNU/GPL v3 to enable other open source projects’ usage.

Bromite is available for Android v4.1 and above.
Features

baked-in adblock engine with filters from EasyList, EasyPrivacy and others
remove click-tracking and AMP from search results
DNS-over-HTTPS support via Google, Cloudflare and Quad9 servers
StartPage, DuckDuckGo and Qwant search engines
chrome flags to disable custom intents and clear session on exit
always-incognito mode
completely removed safe browsing and other privacy-unfriendly features
anti-fingerprinting mitigations for canvas, audio, client rects, webGL and sensor APIs
use fixed User-Agent to conceal real model and browser version
privacy enhancement patches from Iridium, Inox patchset, Brave and ungoogled-chromium projects

Features not related to privacy

import/export bookmarks
allow playing videos in background tabs and disable pause on switching tabs
all codecs included (proprietary, open H.264 etc.)
built with official speed optimizations

Sichert eure Installer! (APK)

App sizes have grown dramatically, up 5x since 2012. But larger apps have downsides: lower install conversion rates, lower update rates, and higher uninstalls.
Gute Erkenntnis.

Was
Sichert eure Installer! (APK)
erschwert.

Voraussetzung ist allerdings man gibt Google seinen privaten Signaturkey. Schreckt vielleicht manchen Entwickler dann doch ab.

You don't need to keep big features that are only used once, on every single device forever; dynamic features can be installed and uninstalled dynamically when your app requests them.

We've heard that you'd like more controls to ensure that users are running the latest and greatest version of your app. To address this, we're launching an In-app Updates API. We're testing the API with early access partners and will be launching it to all developers soon.

You'll have two options with this API; the first is a full-screen experience for critical updates when you expect the user to wait for the update to be applied immediately. The second option is a flexible update, which means the user can keep using the app while the update is downloaded.

Summer Survey 2 results
https://lineageos.org/Summer-Survey-2-Results/
This year, about 1% of our users (at the time of writing) took the survey - this more or less matches last year’s situation: the results are not reflective of our entire user base, but we’ll analyze the feedback nonetheless.
96.7% of respondents have at least one phone running Lineage, while only 9.4% own a tablet with Lineage installed.
There’s also been an increase in the number of users not using Google apps this year: 14.6% compared to last year’s 10%.
We were also asked about why old builds are removed. The answer is that the mirrors we use are donated to us by external organizations and they have limited space - keeping old builds would require too much space. Additionally, we won’t distribute old, insecure, and potentially broken builds, as we don’t want users running abandonware-equivalent versions with no active updates.

Fairphone 2 is the first phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset to offer Android Nougat
https://www.fairphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Press-Release-Android-7.pdf

(also vom Hersteller. Custom ROMs gab es schon.)

The company estimates that the hours worked, combined with external developing costs and certification brings the total cost of the software upgrade to about EUR 500,000. This investment is especially significant given the number of Fairphone 2s in circulation: about 100,000 phones have been sold to date, which will receive the
free update. Similar to the release of Android 7 also the previous release of Android 6 cost 500.000 EUR to develop. For a small company like Fairphone this is a big
investment, but necessary acknowledging the crucial role software plays to keep phones longer-lasting.
Beyond the time and money invested, what makes this achievement so special is the fact that the Fairphone 2’s chipset is no longer officially supported by the
chipset vendor. Therefore, to make Android 7 a reality, Fairphone and its partners had to build on existing work that had been done by the wider open source
community. As a result, the company is currently the only phone manufacturer to offer Android 7 for a device that uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset.

new change coming with the Android Pie update will limit the amount of time you can use free themes on Samsung devices.

According to a pop-up message in the Theme Store, Samsung will be limiting free theme usage to just 14 days with Android Pie. That means you will only be able to use a free theme for 14 days. After that, the theme will automatically be reverted to the default. Samsung will notify the user of this change 1-day and 10-minutes before it occurs. These notifications will come with suggestions for other themes.

https://www.golem.de/news/linux-and...standard-kernel-api-benutzen-1811-137816.html

Sony has been kind enough to let Xperia device owners unlock their bootloaders for years. That's an option that fewer and fewer OEMs offer, but it comes with some very real drawbacks in Sony's case. Unlocking an Xperia device would clear all DRM keys, thus turning your camera into hot garbage. There's good news, though. It appears that the Android Pie update no longer cripples the camera on unlocked devices.
https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/...ader-sony-phones-no-longer-wrecks-camera-pie/

Hoffentlich ist der Blödsinn wirklich vorbei.

.
On devices like the XZ Premium (see above) running Pie, the camera can take photos normally with white balance control and Camera2 API support. However, you won't get RAW file output from the camera. Sony's X-Reality video enhancement feature still won't work, and a lack of Widevine L1 DRM prevents HD video playback in many apps. The ClearAudio+ and DSEE HX audio features also remain dead.

WTF?

Updates deaktiviert habt, sonst schwerer feststellbar).

Über Google hab ich dazu nix gefunden.
